Does a fresh, blank page give you more anxiety than possibility? Let’s check out some journals that come with instructions! Don’t worry, little planner. We’ll walk you through this big, bad world of journaling. One page at a time…

Wreck This Journal by Keri Smith, $10 paperback

This super fun journal comes with instructions that some my find therapeutic and energizing – “poke holes in this page using a pencil,” “stand here,” etc. It combines physical tasks with the usual pen to paper journaling. This would be an awesome gift for a writer struggling with writer’s block. Creative journaling with benefits. That’s something we can get behind!

Start Where You Are by Meera Lee Patel, $10

An interactive journal that takes you through the journey of your own thoughts and emotions. One page asks you to fill in what your most frequent thoughts are, and what you wish they were. Extremely self-exploratory, which could be really fun or terrifying depending on the type of person you are. I kind of want one, actually.

The 52 Lists Project by Moorea Seal, $10.19

If ever there was a journal created specifically with me in mind, this would be the one. I love making lists more than I love just about anything in life. The lists in this journal are introspective, like “List your goals for this year,” and also fun, like “List your favorite characters from books, movies, etc.” I could journal in this book each year for the rest of my life.

Instant Happy Journal by Karen Salmansohn, $11.15

This journal is filled with happiness “prompts” like studies about happiness and exercises in gratitude that inspire even the grouchiest curmudgeons to smile as they write. I could use this after every trip to the grocery store with my two kids, while I decompress behind the locked bathroom door.

I Am Here Now by The Mindfulness Project, $10.35

Talk about interactive! This journal practices what it preaches, steps towards being the most mindful you you can be. Packed with physical exercises and visual breakdowns, you will certainly come away feeling more present than when you first cracked open the spine. Ohm.

Hope some of instructive journals help open your mind to a world of creative possibility! Happy planning! xo
